Details

Punta Pitt is located on the east end of San Cristóbal Island. It is a group of volcanic cones eroded and scarcely populated by endemic and indigenous vegetation of the Islands. Punta Pitt is an ideal place where a variety of marine birds, such as, blue-footed boobies, masked, red-footed boobies, frigates among others nest.

Punta Pitt presents a scenery of varied colors, due to its lavas of different types, as for its colorful vegetation, typical of xerophytic plants, as well as its clear sky and its peaceful sea.

It is composed of volcanic tuff substrate. The strong winds present in this place have caused a natural erosion. It is considered by many visitors as one of the most beautiful sites in the Galapagos Islands, as it is the only place where you can observe the three species of boobies and the two species of frigates nesting in the same area.

Punta Pitt, has an extension of approximately 558 Km2 and 730m of height above sea level. Visitors will be able to walk a trail of 1400 meters, which includes an olivine beach of approximately 90 meters and a path that ascends to the top of a volcanic tufa hill through several natural viewpoints.

The beautiful olive-yellow beach with sparkling crystals owes the color of its sand to the erosion of lava and shells caused by the sea. On it can be observed dozens of sea lions, frigates, pelicans, herons and seagulls flying over the place. The beach at Punta Pitt is also an excellent seaside resort. Punta Pitt is a recommended site for snorkeling or diving, as it has a great variety of tropical fish.
